Fountain of “Oof!”

fountain-of-youth1I was born in 1938, and I am 65 years old. Now if you’re wondering what happened to those missing 11 years, well, I haven’t found the  fountain of youth. What I have found is a good doctor.

I see a chiropractor in Pottstown, PA, and he has helped me to feel better physically than I’ve felt in a very long time. I’ve never had serious physical issues, but I used to get some real pain in my right hip which made long walks difficult, and sometimes even woke me up. It didn’t take long for the doctor to fix that issue, but since then even better things have happened.

For example, I used to tell everyone that I was 5′ 2 1/2″ tall, but due to the correction of my spine, I’ve grown! I am now 5′ 3″ tall, and my posture is so much better. I used to buy “petite” clothing, but now I have to buy regular sized blouses or else they’re too short. People say you get shorter with age, but I’m proof that it doesn’t have to be that way.

And the latest, and possibly greatest, change is my new-found youth.

My chiropractor has a machine that measures all sorts of things. He has me stand on the machine, which looks much like a weight scale, and hold a bar in front of me for as long as I can. Based on what the machine learns from this, and based on my age, weight, body fat and muscle tone, it is able to calculate my actual age. And that, dear friends, is 65. Time to retire, I guess?

I have worked hard to lower this number. It was never 76 – my actual age – but it has been dropping for Grace Hand Weights Exercise Shotmonths now. This process has caused me to lose 24 pounds, and I am now using some hand weights to improve my muscle tone. Every time I step onto the machine I am wondering if my numbers are going in the right direction, but my doctor is very pleased.

We live and die by numbers in America. How important is this one? I’m not sure. But I am sure that I am feeling better than I have since before I was 65, and that’s saying something. I never thought about chiropractic care until about a year ago. Since that time I’ve become a fan, and I would encourage you to consider it as well. Make sure you choose a good doctor if you do – some of them are pretty flaky – but it could have a huge effect on your health and sense of well being.

Blessings and Good Health!

Grace
